Clinical Medical Assistant
Certificate Program
Delivered in Hybrid and Self-Paced Online Formats
This comprehensive program prepares learners to assist physicians with the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. The program will train students to assist physicians and gain the skills needed to support patient care and perform essential clinical tasks. Topics covered include preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, pharmacology, taking and documenting vital signs, technical aspects of phlebotomy, the 12-lead EKG, and the cardiac life cycle.
Learners are eligible to participate in an optional volunteer externship opportunity upon completion of the 140-hour program and after submitting documentation required by the healthcare facility. Students will also have the option to take the leading industry-recognized national certification exams, which are essential to entry-level employment in this fast-growing field.

This program is presented in partnership with a third-party provider and is not taught by California State University, Long Beach faculty. The course is not offered for academic credit and is not degree-eligible.
Please Note:
This course is offered in two separate delivery formats. One is the hybrid online format, which has asynchronous online curriculum, live online Zoom lectures with an instructor in real time, and seven in-person hands-on lab session classes that are held on campus.
The second delivery method is a fully online program that does not meet live or in person. This self-paced program has a program coordinator to answer any questions you may have as you complete the program on your own time frame.
